The two Arab journalists I most respect have written of the fear in Arabic-speaking countries about Iran’s having nuclear weapons. They explain persuasively why a U.S. containment policy of reassuring Arab states and Israel against direct nuclear attack is totally inadequate.

Listen to what they’re saying as it is much more accurate in warning about the coming strategic shift in the region than what’s being written in the West.

Both Abd al-Rahman al-Rashid and Ahmad al-Jarallah are close to elements in the Saudi regime yet also maintain personal independence and support liberal reform. Rashid (often transliterated, Rashed) is a Saudi who is former editor of al-Sharq al-Awsat, probably the best Arabic newspaper, and is now director-general of the al-Arabiya network, possibly the best satellite television network. There has been a huge international controversy about the assassination of Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, a leading Hamas terrorist, in Dubai on January 19. I have no idea who did it but have some points to make on the subject.

1. Generally speaking, media coverage almost never (in Europe) or only minimally (in the United States) talks about what Mabhouh actually did to merit his end. The New York Times had the following paragraph at the very end of its story:

“Mr. Mabhouh had a role in the 1989 abduction and killing of two Israeli soldiers, and was also involved in smuggling weapons into Gaza, Israel and Hamas have said. Israel officials say the weapons came from Iran.” Click here to read the entire article…

Al-Qaeda training female suicide bombers who may not look Arab, carry Western passport

WASHINGTON – Al-Qaeda is training female suicide bombers in Yemen, including at least two who do not look Arab and carry Western passports, ABC reported.

According the report, the current threat is tangible but the female bombers have not yet been sent on their suicide missions.

Former White House counter-terrorism official Richard Clarke reported that al-Qaeda trains the female terrorists in Yemen. American officials have said that a recent US air strike on the terror network’s training camp in the country killed many would-be suicide bombers but not all of them.

What could be more boring, you might ask, then a press conference following the meeting between Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Qatar Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabr al-Thani? Well, a little document like this is a gold mine of interesting stuff that either won’t be covered or won’t be understood in the mass media.

Qatar, though tiny, is a very interesting country. On one hand, it hosts al-Udayd air base which is vital for the U.S. presence in the Gulf. On the other hand, it hosts and owns al-Jazira television which incites anti-Americanism. To make matters worse, Qatar has been the Gulf Arab state closest to Iran, which hosted the anti-American and radical summit led by the Iran-Syria bloc.

So Qatar is hedging its bets rather well. In public, Hillary isn’t going to complain about this stuff. Did she do so in the private meeting? Perhaps, though the jollity of al-Thani, a member of the ruling family, seems to belie any tough words from the secretary of state. But this is going too far:

The planned bombing of Northwest Airlines Flight 252 was averted by a stroke of luck and the courage of a Dutchman.

But the lesson provided by Umar Abdulmutallab on Christmas Day has been lost to Obama Administration.

Yes, we now have increased security at our international airports – - a measure that has resulted in passengers waiting in line over four hours to board an airplane.

Yes, we have heightened attention to passports and visas from visitors to the U.S. – - not only from Iran and Iraq but also Ireland and Iceland.

Yes, we have raised concern over emerging hotbeds of radical Islam, including Yemen and Nigeria.

Airliner Suicide Mission Blessed By American Imam

The Nigerian Muslim, now in a Michigan federal prison for attempting to blow up a Detroit-bound airliner on Christmas day, had his suicide mission personally blessed in Yemen by Anwar al-Aulaqi, an American-born imam who served as the spiritual leader of Dar al-Hijrah, a large mosque in Falls Church, Virginia.

An U.S. intelligence official, who is familiar with the FBI’s interrogation of Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, informed The Washington Times that the bombing suspect has bragged of his jihad training in Yemen and has said that his mission to blow up the Northwest Airliner 253 was blessed by al-Aulaqi.

“It was Aulaqi who indoctrinated him,” the official said. “He was told, ‘You are going to be the tip of the spear of the Muslim nation.’ ”

Al-Aulaqi is also suspected of radicalizing the Major Malik Nadal Hassan, who stands accused of killing 13 soldiers at Fort Hood, Texas.

Under al-Aulaqi’s leadership, Dar al-Hijrah, a mosque built and sustained by Saudi Arabia, became a veritable magnet for militant Muslims. It attracted an alarming number of terrorist supporters, terrorist facilitators, terrorist fundraisers, terrorist co-conspirators, and actual terrorists, including at least two of the 9/11 hijackers who crashed the plane into the Pentagon. Fort Hood Terrorist Killed Americans in the name of G-d

Dramatic New Evidence On Major Nidal Hasan and the Fort Hood Terror Attack

This story seems to blow the lid off the killings at Fort Hood. Anwar al-Awlaki, a Muslim cleric who is a U.S. citizen now living in Yemen, says that the mass murdering major, Nidal Hasan, asked and was given by him a religious ruling authorizing him to shoot the soldiers. This would prove premeditation, a rational decision based on Islamic law, and the Jihadist motivation of the attack beyond any ability to conceal it.

Awlaki’s al-Jazira interview is translated by MEMRI which, it should be noted, does not at all sensationalize the story. While Awlaki could be talking big or “taking credit” for the terrorist operation, he was the imam at Hasan’s mosque in the Washington DC area for some time. His account is credible though it obviously should be investigated closely.

According to the interview, Hasan sent Awlaki an email on December 17, 2008, in which he asked, in Awlaki’s words whether “killing American soldiers and officers…is a religiously legitimate act or not.” Click here to read the entire article…

Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.), ranking member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, is charging the Obama administration with stalling to provide information to the leaders of the House and Senate and the congressional intelligence committees on the multiple murders committed by a radical Muslim Army officer at Fort Hood more than a month ago.

The congressional leaders, Mr. Hoekstra maintains, have received no detailed, substantive briefing on the event and what is known about its perpetrator.

“We’re going home next week, (and) they will have effectively made it through three months with giving no substantive briefings on Fort Hood,” the congressman says.

The position of President Obama, Mr. Hoekstra insists, violates the Constitution which holds that the administration must “ensure that the congressional intelligence committees are kept fully and currently informed of the intelligence activities of the United States.” Click here to read the entire article…

American Student Arrested in Pakistan Has Ties to Radical Mosque

A Pakistani newspaper reports the arrest of five American Muslims in Sargodha, Pakistan, for terrorist activities after a raid in a town called Sargodha. The arrests took place following a raid at the home of a member of the Jaish-e-Muhammad, a Pakistani movement designated as a terrorist group by the U.S. Treasury Department in 2001.

The five American Muslims have been identified as Ahmed Abdullah, Waqar Hassan Khan, Eman Hassan, Yasir and Rami Zamzam.

Zamzam is a graduate dental student at Howard University, where he served as president of the Muslim Student Association.

According to reports, Zamzam and his family worshipped at the radical Dar Al-Hijrah mosque, which is located in a Virginia suburb of Washington. Click here to read the entire article…
