Driving into the City

The other day I was driving into the city and I saw something that really made me think about how we as Christians need to be prepared at all times by wearing the armor of God.

What I saw was two people riding motorcycles on the highway. One of the persons was fully equipped; helmet, leathers, gloves, boots; they were wearing all the protective gear needed to save their life in case they are in an accident.

The other person, on the other hand, wasn’t. They were completely unprepared wearing only tennis shoes, a tank top and shorts. If this person were to get into an accident, they would incur severe bodily injury, or even death due to the lack of gear that is required to help protect you if you are in a motorcycle accident.

Both of these riders are well aware of the risks involved in riding a motorcycle, and both are also aware of the equipment needed to protect the body in case of an accident, yet one choose to take the risk of severe injury even though aware of the consequences they might face.

This reminds me of how Christians need to put on the full armor of God daily, protecting us from the dangers that surround us. The dangers that lurk behind every corner we might turn in our journeys through life.

We need to wear the helmet, carry the shield and the sword everywhere we travel.

And the only way we can achieve this is by studying the word of God on a daily basis, implanting His word upon our hearts and minds so that when the time comes we can speak the truth boldly, without fear; speaking how we ought to speak, proclaiming the gospel of Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior forever and ever Amen!

Ephesians 6:11-20 ESV Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. (12) For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. (13) Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. (14) Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, (15) and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. (16) In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; (17) and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, (18) praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, (19) and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, (20) for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.

Are you ready to wear the armor of God?

I know I am…
