The Borrower Is The Slave Of The Lender

As I think about the current state of our countries economic situation and the difference between the depressions of the 1930’s compared to today, I noticed a few major factors that allowed them get through the hard times they were facing. The one thing that sticks out the most in my mind is that:
They did not have credit cards – they did not exist. This meant that they could not borrow to live above their means and that whatever they owned; they owned it outright. They were not slaves to the banking system.
If we today would only live by the laws that God has set forth for us, we would not be in this economical crisis which leads me to Proverbs 22:7, in addition to another post I hope to be writing shortly.
For now let’s read Proverbs 22:7.
Proverbs 22:7 ESV The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender.
This one verse sums it up. If we continue to borrow, we continue become the slaves of the lenders and this is exactly what we are facing today. Families are being destroyed and dismantled because they choose to live beyond their means and borrow to be able buy the next [ Fill in the blank ] rather than waiting patiently while earning enough money to own it outright.
In order to try to turn this situation around; printing money and issuing more credits cards is not going to solve this problem. We need to start educating our own children on how to live biblical with Gods principals first and foremost, so in return they can teach their future generations while learning from our mistakes. They can teach their children that you need to earn what you receive and not purchase it on credit or ask the government for hand outs.
If we do not do this and continue down the path of refusing to obey God, the future of our country does not look very promising.
What will happen if we continue to disobey?
Lets looks to Isaiah 3:4-9.
Isaiah 3:4-9 ESV And I will make boys their princes, and infants shall rule over them. (5) And the people will oppress one another, every one his fellow and every one his neighbor; the youth will be insolent to the elder, and the despised to the honorable. (6) For a man will take hold of his brother in the house of his father, saying: “You have a cloak; you shall be our leader, and this heap of ruins shall be under your rule”; (7) in that day he will speak out, saying: “I will not be a healer; in my house there is neither bread nor cloak; you shall not make me leader of the people.” (8) For Jerusalem has stumbled, and Judah has fallen, because their speech and their deeds are against the LORD, defying his glorious presence. (9) For the look on their faces bears witness against them; they proclaim their sin like Sodom; they do not hide it. Woe to them! For they have brought evil on themselves.
Children will rule over us and people will oppress one another all because this nation refuses to follow the Lord our God. In my opinion, I think it is time we start to follow what the LORD our God teaches us to do and start living biblical daily.
May we all bend our knees and bow in reverence to Him so that He will hear our cries and help deliver us from the evil ways we have chosen to follow because of our own stiff necks.
In closing I would just like to read Deuteronomy 11:13-14
Deuteronomy 11:13-14 ESV “And if you will indeed obey my commandments that I command you today, to love the LORD your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul, (14) he will give the rain for your land in its season, the early rain and the later rain, that you may gather in your grain and your wine and your oil.
All we have to do is obey Him and be righteous in His sight and He will bless us.
I know what my choice is, what about you?
God bless…
