Adultery, did I just do that?

The other day I was driving home with a friend of mine and we started discussing about what it takes to really follow God these days, and out of the blue something interesting struck me.
Here we say that we are Christians, trying to do our best to follow the teachings of Jesus (the Son of God), but yet unknowingly we support on a daily basis everything that God Himself abhors.
What do I mean?
Like everyone, I enjoy a good movie or a sitcom, but when we watch movies or sitcoms where actors and actresses who are married outside of the big screen, engage with one another in an intimate way, whether is be a passionate kiss, an embrace or lying down with one another all in the name of acting, then I would have to say, in my opinion, that we are supporting the things that God says He is against? Adultery.
Why adultery?
Because when you become married, you take a vow before God Almighty to hold your marriage as a holy commitment before the Lord and when we do anything impure with someone else besides the one we are married, it is a sin before God.
Hebrews 13:4 NASB Marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the marriage bed is to be undefiled; for fornicators and adulterers God will judge.
Marriage is to be held in honor and not just trampled on lightly. Think of all the people sitting and watching these movies and sitcoms that come into our homes via the television, think about what they see or think when they watch these shows.
If these forms of so called entertainment make one stumble in any way by the actions that are taken upon the screen, then those actions should have not been taken as it is a stumbling block, therefore causing one to sin against God.
Just because we are not physically participating in adultery, we are indirectly supporting when we watch married people on the silver screen engaged in a sensual gaze with another, the holding of the hand with another, the kissing of the lip with another that is not their spouse.
These are all acts of impurity in eyes of God even if the world says it is ok.
Remember we have to choose in everything that we do, the world, or God, we can’t take both views.
1 John 2:15 NASB Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
In closing, I would like to look at what Jesus has to say about adultery;
Matthew 5:27-28 NASB “You have heard that it was said, ‘YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY’; (28) but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Wow, doesn’t that just hit home. To Jesus, even looking at another person in a lustful way is committing adultery, yet every time we Christians turn on that movie or TV show we turn a blind eye and say nothing.
When you think about that, do you think that Jesus would watch, “Desperate House Wives”, or would He call it an abomination and turn it off? That is a question you need to answer for yourself.
And lastly;
James 4:4 NASB You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
In my opinion we can’t have it both ways, we either have to be for God, or for the world, and each one of us has to make our own choice.
If we Christians continue to refuse to stand up for righteousness and continue to let things slide by the wayside, myself included, how can we go to God to ask Him to help fix our nation’s problems when we don’t even have our hearts right before Him in the first place?
I just turned off the TV, how about you?
