Book of Samuel; David / Saul

One of the many things I find interesting in the book of Samuel is the way David kept his hand from harming Saul even though Saul wanted to bring harm upon David.
1 Samuel 23:8 NASB So Saul summoned all the people for war, to go down to Keilah to besiege David and his men.
And even when Saul was within David’s reach;
1 Samuel 24:3-4 NASB He came to the sheepfolds on the way, where there was a cave; and Saul went in to relieve himself. Now David and his men were sitting in the inner recesses of the cave. (4) The men of David said to him, “Behold, this is the day of which the LORD said to you, ‘Behold; I am about to give your enemy into your hand, and you shall do to him as it seems good to you.’” Then David arose and cut off the edge of Saul’s robe secretly.
David cut off the edge of Saul’s robe in secret and even though no one knew what David had done, he knew that what he did was wrong.
1 Samuel 24:5 NASB It came about afterward that David’s conscience bothered him because he had cut off the edge of Saul’s robe.
Why?
Because David realized that God brought Saul to power, and due to this David knew he had no right to bring harm against the LORD’s anointed.
1 Samuel 24:6 NASB So he said to his men, “Far be it from me because of the LORD that I should do this thing to my lord, the LORD’S anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, since he is the LORD’S anointed.”
My point?
All rulers of nations whether they want to believe it or not, are brought to power by God and God alone. Some of these rulers will be wicked in all that they do, and I pray that others will be as wise as David was in his wisdom and understanding of what Gods will truly is.
We need to remember an important fact, that God has a purpose and a plan in all that He does, even if we do not understand we must trust in the Lord at all times unconditionally.
Proverbs 16:4 NASB The LORD has made everything for its own purpose, Even the wicked for the day of evil.
Proverbs 3:5 NASB Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding.
When nations choose not to follow the will of God, those nations and rulers, will be brought under God’s wrath and He will repay them for their transgressions.
Proverbs 16:12 NASB It is an abomination for kings to commit wicked acts, For a throne is established on righteousness.
Micah 5:15 NASB “And I will execute vengeance in anger and wrath On the nations which have not obeyed.”
Those nations and kings that are righteous in God sight will be rewarded, but whoa to those nations that refuse to obey for they will be brought to utter ruin.
2 Samuel 23:3-7 NASB “The God of Israel said, The Rock of Israel spoke to me, ‘He who rules over men righteously, Who rules in the fear of God, (4) Is as the light of the morning when the sun rises, A morning without clouds, When the tender grass springs out of the earth, Through sunshine after rain.’ (5) “Truly is not my house so with God? For He has made an everlasting covenant with me, Ordered in all things, and secured; For all my salvation and all my desire, Will He not indeed make it grow? (6) “But the worthless, every one of them will be thrust away like thorns, Because they cannot be taken in hand; (7) But the man who touches them Must be armed with iron and the shaft of a spear, And they will be completely burned with fire in their place.”
We need to start today, if not already, to pray that the nations and rulers of this world will start to seek and obey God instead of removing Him from all that they do in order to have their ears tickled.
In my opinion we can take one of two paths;
- 1. Continue in the way of lawlessness.
- 2. Repent and bow before God in reverence asking Him to forgive us of our transgressions in order to bring the nations of this world back to Him; the God of Jacob, Abraham and Isaac; the one true God of Israel.
One day every knee with bow down before our Father in heaven:
Romans 14:11 NASB For it is written, “AS I LIVE, SAYS THE LORD, EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW TO ME, AND EVERY TONGUE SHALL GIVE PRAISE TO GOD.”
And we will all be judged accordingly to the paths that we chose to follow.
I pray that we as a nation, as a people, as a race, regardless of tongue, will choose to follow God, to do His will, not our own.
In closing, I pray these words as taught by Jesus.
Matthew 6:9-13 NASB “Pray, then, in this way: ‘Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. (10) ‘Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. (11) ‘Give us this day our daily bread. (12) ‘And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. (13) ‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.]‘
